Landscape Science/Engineering — Geotechnical /Drainage Engineering

Many parks are constructed in areas which present unique geotechnical and drainage problems. Often land is available for public use because it has technical problems which have precluded its use for other development. Many are underlain by soft soils or contain significant amounts of waste fill materials. For many sites surface and subsurface drainage requirements can be costly components of site development. P&S's extensive experience with difficult sites allows quick identification of potential problems and technically solid strategies to resolve them. Moreover, P&S's comprehensive skills often lead to creative solutions that can significantly reduce site development costs.

Profile Project
J. F. Kennedy Memorial Park
Location: MA
Services: Environmental, Geotechnical, Urban Soils and Horticultural Analysis
The Memorial Park for John F. Kennedy was in part a former MBTA storage area consisting of a large, buried concrete slab supported on pile foundations, in part a former ash landfill and in part a former tidal marsh. Each portion presented different major site development constraints. After extensive investigation, P&S designed pre-load areas, pile foundations, planting media and a solution to environmental contaminant issues to support park development at this highly visible but technically challenging site.
