Field Services — Vertical Profiling/3D Analysis

P&S's MicroWell and VibraDrill technology can provide sequential sampling of ground water, soil gas or permeability. Since the well is a single intact unit it can be advanced further into the ground in short intervals after a sample has been taken. Vertical profiling allows measurement of contaminant levels, head elevations and permeability as they vary with depth in a well. A correlation between permeability and ground water quality can be established enabling delineation of the contaminant plume.

Sequential Permeability Testing
Field Investigations — Vertical Profiling/3D Analysis
Location: New Hampshire
P&S conducted sequential pneumatic permeability testing at a US EPA site in New Hampshire in order to define changes in transmissivity and to determine if a relationship existed between permeability and water quality data. A single MicroWell was driven to increasing depths and sequentially sampled. At each interval a pneumatic testing device was used to lower the water level. A pressure transducer then measured water level changes in a rising head permeability test. This approach, using a data logger and computer analysis, generated extensive data rapidly using minimal materials and at a fraction of the cost of other methods.
