P&S conducted an investigation for the MADEP to determine the source of trichloroethylene (TCE) which had contaminated private and public water supply wells. Shallow bedrock throughout much of the area made the potential costs of a conventional ground water monitoring program extraordinarily expensive. But, P&S was able to use its mobile laboratory, MicroWells, VibraDrill soil sampling, and soil gas techniques to track the plume more than 1600 feet to the septic system of a private home. The extremely low detection limits obtained by P&S's mobile lab and P&S's extensive experience with sampling techniques were the keys to determining the TCE source.
